Governor’s Charter Academy

Governor’s Charter Academy

Governors Charter Academy was built on an aggressive timeline and budget. This school fell under two jurisdictions for approvals which can complicate things. In order to build Governors Charter Academy, off-site improvements were required. Mr. Smith worked closely with the municipalities through the permitting, re-zoning and entitlement process also negotiating cost sharing agreements with the county for these improvements.

Mr. Smith managed the design, permitting, and implementing of a “POD” design concept which grouped four classrooms together utilizing a common area. This design was important to Charter School USA as this school was going to be promoted as a flagship for future schools. Because of this, there was additional pressure to make it unique. For this school an interior designer was made part of the team to brainstorm a new level of interior finishes, from upgraded paint colors to ceramic tile.

Regular meetings were held with all parties involved (Contractors, City, and County representatives) which created and open forum for communication. This was the only way the project was able to be completed on time, within budget, and satisfying all parties’ expectations. In addition, Mr. Smith negotiated subcontract agreements, designed and managed the project schedule as well as overseeing the construction activities from an executive level.
